Bolt Builds is a design, build, and fabrication firm located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Intermediate Designer
About Bolt
Bolt is a full-service Design + Build firm and fully insured General Contractor based in Brooklyn. We specialize in design-forward hospitality, retail, and residential projects that merge classical sensibility with innovative construction and fabrication methods. We believe that great design is only as strong as its execution — and that means being just as rigorous about budgets, schedules, and communication as we are about creative vision.
The Role
Bolt Builds is seeking a thoughtful, detail-oriented Interior Designer with 2–5 years of experience to join our design and construction team. This role is ideal for someone who is ready to take on more ownership within a fast-paced design-build studio, contributing meaningfully to projects from early concept through construction.
You will work closely with senior designers and project managers while also operating independently on key deliverables. This role requires both strong design sensibility and the ability to execute. You will move fluidly between creative development, technical documentation, and real-world problem-solving.
What You’ll Do
Design Development & Execution
Lead and contribute to design concepts across multiple projects, from schematic design through design development
Produce drawings, 3D models, and renderings using Rhino, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite
Translate conceptual ideas into clear, buildable design solutions
FF&E Selection & Documentation
Research, select, and specify materials, finishes, and furnishings aligned with project budgets and design intent
Own and maintain FF&E schedules and supporting documentation
Coordinate directly with vendors for pricing, lead times, and sample procurement
Project Documentation
Develop and manage drawing sets throughout design and construction phases
Coordinate with internal teams and external consultants (AOR, MEP, fabricators, etc.)
Ensure documentation is clear, organized, and aligned with Bolt’s standards
Construction Coordination
Support the construction team during build-out by answering RFIs, updating drawings, and resolving design issues in real time
Participate in site visits, walk-throughs, and installation coordination
Ensure design intent is carried through to final execution
Client & Team Collaboration
Participate in client presentations and meetings, contributing to both design direction and communication
Collaborate closely with project managers, designers, and fabricators
Take ownership of assigned tasks and proactively move work forward
Studio & Material Management
Maintain organization of project files, samples, and material library
Stay up to date on new materials, vendors, and industry trends
What We’re Looking For
2–5 years of professional experience in interior design, architecture, or design-build environments
Strong proficiency in Rhino, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite
Experience producing construction drawings and coordinating with consultants
Strong understanding of materials, detailing, and how things are built
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines across concurrent projects
Clear and professional communication skills, both internally and with clients/vendors
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a high level of ownership
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
Passion for hospitality, retail, and thoughtfully executed spaces
